Meet the Author
Lori’s book Successful Surgery and Healing is shaped by her firsthand experience with both planned and unplanned surgeries, including open-heart surgery, an emergency appendectomy, reconstructive knee surgery, a partially-severed Achilles tendon, a traumatic brain injury, and back surgery.
For more than 30 years, Lori has worked as a production manager in the film industry making television commercials for Fortune 500 clients, managing budgets, production crews, equipment, timelines, schedules and travel. In Successful Surgery and Healing, Lori has combined her experience as a patient and her skills in managing large projects to create practical resources for patients and their loved ones to use before and after having surgery.
On her journey to where she is now, Lori has interacted with healthcare staff in hospitals from across the country, studied traditional massage techniques in Thailand, learned about spiritual practices at Buddhist temples in Nepal, earned a massage therapy degree in Salt Lake City, and learned a great deal about navigating surgeries and her personal well-being practices along the way.
Lori is also a passionate volunteer for many organizations including those that support foster children, brain injury, US veterans, and disaster relief. She currently resides in Salt Lake City, Utah with her blind dog Annabell Sweetpea who is her daily reminder of how valuable listening, compassion, and being present can be.
